Our Legacy — A Racing Tradition Since 1952

Elkins Speedway began life more than 70 years ago, hosting its very first race in 1952. Over the decades, the track — nestled in the rolling mountains of West Virginia — has become a foundational pillar of Appalachian dirt-track racing, bringing together drivers, crews, families, and fans for generations of Friday and Saturday night Thunder in the Mountains racing.

Originally operating under the name “Elkins Raceway” (also known at times as “Corridor H Speedway,” “Mountain State Motor Speedway,” or “Elkins Motor Speedway”) the venue has maintained its semi-banked 3/8-mile oval clay track layout — a classic dirt-track setup that hosts a variety of racing classes from Super Late Models to Mini Wedges for young drivers.

Over the years, the track has celebrated its heritage with dedicated events such as the “Wall of Legends” — honoring former drivers, mechanics, promoters, sponsors and supporters whose blood, sweat and tears helped build the culture of Elkins Speedway.

A NEW CHAPTER

Welcome Mike & Becky Hurley – In August 2025, longtime dirt-racing enthusiasts Mike Hurley and Becky Hurley purchased the track ushering in a new era under the name Elkins With deep roots in motorsports, the Hurleys bring renewed energy, vision, and commitment to preserving the track’s heritage while elevating the fan and driver experience. Elkins Speedway enhancements includes:

Facility Upgrades

Planned facility upgrades include enhanced safety features for both drivers and fans, improved lighting, updated barriers, refreshed seating, expanded concessions, and more — all designed to create a safer, more comfortable, and more competitive environment for everyone who comes through the gates.

Fair Competitive Racing

Clearer rules and consistent enforcement to ensure fairness, safety, and integrity for all competitors – across every racing class.

Fan Experience & Community

We are dedicated to our racing and local community by creating a welcoming, family-friendly venue that reflects the true spirit of a hometown racetrack. Our goal is to offer fans of all ages a place where racing connects family and friends — a place where long-held traditions are honored, new memories are built, and the energy of grassroots racing grows stronger with each generation of new racers.

What Makes Elkins Speedway a special racetrack? Elkins Speedway carries a rich heritage built over generations of racers, fans, and families who have called this track home. For more than 70 years, this track has echoed with local legends, unforgettable battles, and memories that define Appalachian dirt racing including multigenerational racers who continue to pass down the passion  from one generation to the next.

Local Community & Heritage

From longtime fans to kids getting their first laps in a Mini-Wedge, Elkins Speedway has always been more than a track — it’s a community. The annual “Wall of Legends” ceremony is just one example of how the track honors its extended racing family, a tradition that will continue for years to come.

Long Competition History

For generations, Elkins has been home to countless events, from Super Late Models and Crate Late Models to Modifieds, Street Stocks, Mini-Wedges, and beyond — offering racers of all ages and experience a place to battle, improve, and proudly carry on the region’s rich racing tradition, all while creating memories, rivalries, and moments that continue to shape the spirit of the sport year after year.

And as we look to the future, we’re focused on growth while staying true to our roots. We’re upgrading and modernizing the facility, but never losing sight of the traditions and values that made Elkins a home for dirt-track fans in the first place.
